JCC: The Baby Unit
Hope for Little Lives
In Sierra Leone, where infant mortality rates are tragically high, Lilomi is embarking on a new mission to provide critical care for orphaned infants. The JCC Baby Unit will be a dedicated space on the JCC campus offering specialised care, nurturing, and support for newborns (0-12 months) who have lost their mothers.

Our Goals:
-
Provide a Safe Haven: Offer a nurturing and hygienic environment equipped to meet the unique needs of vulnerable infants.
-
Reduce Infant Mortality: Ensure infants receive essential care, nutrition, and medical attention during their most vulnerable stage.
-
Support Family Reunification: Work closely with families to facilitate reunification and provide training and resources for long-term care.
-
Empower Communities: Build local capacity and partnerships to address the root causes of infant mortality and promote sustainable solutions.
The Baby Unit will offer:
-
24/7 Care: Dedicated caregivers trained in infant care will provide round-the-clock support.
-
Nutritional Support: Ensure babies receive proper nutrition through breastfeeding support and access to formula and appropriate weaning foods.
-
Medical Care: Facilitate access to medical check-ups, vaccinations, and treatment in collaboration with local healthcare providers.
-
Family Training: Empower families with the knowledge and skills to provide loving care for their infants.

JCC New Classrooms Project: Building a Brighter Future, One Floor at a Time

At Lilomi, we believe that every child deserves access to quality education in an environment that fosters growth, curiosity, and a love for learning. To continue supporting this vision, we are excited to announce our latest project: the construction of a new classroom building at Jonathan's Child Care (JCC) in Sierra Leone, taking a phased approach to ensure its successful completion.

Project Overview
The JCC New Classrooms Project aims to build four spacious, modern classrooms on top of the existing science lab. These classrooms will be dedicated to science education for upper school students, providing them with the necessary space and resources to thrive academically. We are committed to constructing this building one floor at a time, ensuring that each phase is fully funded and completed before moving on to the next.

Why This Project Matters
-
Addressing Overcrowding: With the increasing number of students at JCC, the current classrooms are no longer sufficient. The new classrooms will alleviate overcrowding, creating a more conducive learning environment.
-
Enhancing Science Education: The dedicated science classrooms will allow students to engage in hands-on experiments and in-depth scientific exploration, fostering critical thinking and a passion for STEM subjects.
-
Improving Academic Outcomes: By providing a better learning environment, we aim to increase average grades across the school and inspire more students to pursue higher education and careers in science.
-
Supporting Community Growth: The expanded capacity will enable JCC to enroll more students, benefiting the entire community by providing more children with access to quality education
Phase One: Building the Foundation
Our immediate focus is on completing the first floor of the building, which will house two state-of-the-art science classrooms. This phase will provide:

-
Two New Classrooms: Spacious, well-equipped rooms designed for effective learning.
-
60 Desk Spaces: Accommodating more students and reducing class sizes.
-
Enhanced Learning Environment: Modern facilities that support interactive and practical education.
Fundraising Goal: £43,605 (with £33,000 already raised!- Dec 2024)
